I have been getting a lot of traffic today from Reddit and some grumbles about the price I set for the Appas. Let me break this down to help you guys understand!
Time spent on each Appa: 10 - 15 hours, depending on pose and details. Price: $150
Hourly rate: $10/hour - $15 hour, give or take.
After paying 30% self-employment tax to Uncle Sam: $7 - $10/hour
Minimum wage where I live: $8/hour
So while the final price appears so steep for something so small, I am not making much more than minimum wage for my effort! And that was OK - felting isn't my bread and butter and I enjoyed making Appas for people. I wasn't trying to rip anyone off, I just wanted some compensation for my time
I apologize for spoiling your surprise, I can't sit on this much longer! He doesn't have his final "accessory" just yet, but that will come in time. Baby Appa himself is effectively finished, he's got his back stripes and everything. I should have given him a wire armature to be able to pose those legs better, I think. Live and learn!
Will update once his sidekick is finished
Edit: I've been getting a lot of requests to buy this little guy, so thank you very much for asking! While he's already going to a new owner, I want to put it out there that although he's small, he took many, many hours to complete and would be priced around $150. I don't mean to scare people off but I wanted to give a frame of reference.
Second Edit: You know, I was going to felt a very small Momo to sit upon Baby Appa's belly, but after two tries and two Momos that came out too big for this Appa, I give up. Baby Appa is done and is his own stand alone piece I'll still finish one of the mini Momos and post that in its own time.
