Doodle Rats! by Steph-Laberis
Doodle Rats!
I've had this idea buzzing around my head for a while and managed to poop this out in the 11th hour before Emerald City Comic Con this week! I will have a very limited quantity of prints for sale at Booth 1320 (limited because I've depleted most of my paper stock, not because I'm trying to be a dick XD )

I will be printing more and listing them online in April, but if you're at the show and see one, snag one! No nasty shipping charges that way!

Hey everyone! It's been a really long time since I've been active on here, or really on any of my social accounts, so thank you for your patience and all of the kind messages I've had waiting for me!

So where have I been all this time? Well, the reality of being an independent adult has set in over the last year, complicated by the fact that I've decided to make my living as an independent artist... I guess what I am saying is "Hooo boy, am I in debt from a crappy year of freelancing!" While it gave me enough spare time to get Snorffles & Meeps 3 done, it's taken its toll on my savings account, and I've had to really focus on getting some solid, paid work.

Luckily, I've had a whole new world opened up to me by signing with an agency this past January. I have 3 major picture books in the works (one of which is a series you all grew up with! EEEEE!) and I am being kept very busy with smaller book titles and children's licensing. It's ended up being a real challenge but also much more fun and freeing than my work in the games industry has been in all of 7 years, so I am very grateful to be in this position right now.

It does mean that there is less time for personal artwork, and really even getting a single new piece done for Emerald City Comic Con has been nearly impossible and it may not even happen. But the overlap of my professional work and personal work had blurred significantly, so I am feeling satisfied with what I am doing these days - the bummer is that I can't talk about it or show anything for at least a year. Boo!

I am going to try and grind on that ECCC piece this week, so stay tuned! Thank you all for hanging in with me!

Three Halos by Steph-Laberis
Three Halos

Sadly, on this overcast day, I lost my oldest rattie, Al. He's on the bottom of the rattie pile. He lived a very long life and passed on peacefully, but needless to say I am not really myself today and sort of hiding from the world. I did want to give him a special tribute, so even though there are a lot of issues and crappy errors with this piece, it was created in the moment and honors my sweet old man reuniting with his brother and their special lady friend, who each passed one year before him. I told you Al lived a really long time.

Hug your pets, people. Hug them now.

Adoring Betty by Steph-Laberis
Adoring Betty
Finally got to a very past-due commission for my friend! This is a portrait of her dearly departed hamster, Betty. This design will be made into a pillow!

Currently I am only planning on making 2 of these special pillows, with one going to my friend and the other put up for auction to help pay off some rattie medical bills. I will let everyone know when the auction goes live.

Sweater Ferret - The Feltie! by Steph-Laberis
Sweater Ferret - The Feltie!
I decided to being one of my ferret illustrations from earlier this year to life in wool! This is for a group show called "Common Threads", and with my piece the common thread (well, common fiber) is wool and I used two different techniques with it to make this guy. His body is needle felted wool over clipped foam and his sweater is knitted wool/wool blend yarn. I have no idea which took me longer, the knitting or the felting, but I am so happy with this guy. It was sad to send him off to the gallery but I am hoping he finds a loving home!

I am a character designer and illustrator by trade and I also do needle felting and puppet-making on the side.

I do take commissions, but I do not accept points as payment. I also do not do needle felted commissions, as they are very time consuming and it's difficult to land on a fee that is both fair to the artist and to the customer. If you are interested in a 2D digital commission, drop me a note to discuss rates and availability!
